San Martin
San Martin de los Andes is a charming mountain town nestled on the tip of Lago Laca between two high peaks. The town is considered the tourism capital of the Neuquen providence and home to some of the best fly fishing in the world.
Mike and I spent another week fishing and navigating the river Chimehuín. We found a cozy little place to camp right of the main trail and right by the river. The first night we were a little nervous because we weren’t sure if we could camp there or not so we walked as far as we could down the trail and didn’t set up our tent until night fall just to be on the safe side.
When fishing in a river we have learned that fish love to hide in the shade so if there are trees along the bank try fishing by them. On our first night I was lucky enough to catch this big trout. The thing was a beast to real in.
This is the fish I caught. Yes, I know I look a little woodsy :) and sorry the picture is not the best quality, the darn fish keep jumping out of my hands and the sun was setting so we were trying to take the picture as fast as possible.
Here is a better picture of the fish after we knocked it out. (Unfortunately Mike didn´t catch a fish that was big enough that we wanted to eat but he had a lot of fun catching the guppies lol)
The river was full of fish, we caught rainbow and brown trouts.
On our last day Mike decided to go swim/fishing. As Mike was fishing there was a bunch of locals who showed up and jumped in and went swimming right where Mike was. We decided to join them so we threw on our suits and had a good swim.
Over all we had a fabulous time camping and fishing!
