Salt Flats Day 2

Day 2 - Early Bird

Today we woke up at 4 am, ate breakfast and then loaded up in the jeep. Today is our long day, approximately 11 hours until our next destination. The great thing about this tour is that there are many stops were you get to stretch your legs and see extraordinary scenery.

First stop -  Abandoned Ghost town

This town was once occupied by more than 2000 people. Story goes that a Spaniard women came to the town and slept around with a lot of people which got them sick. Once the people started dying the remainder left the town desolate. The town kinda has a creepy feeling to it.

Altitude Sickness 101

4855 meters = 15,928 feet

Second stop – Auga Termales

A natural hot tub which we got to swim in, supposedly it had good minerals for your skin. Beware not to stay in longer than 20 minutes because it will cause severe itching and a rash.

The great thing about this tour is having our own personal cook. She makes 3 meals a day plus morning and afternoon snacks which is awesome and allows us to relax and feel pampered.

Third stop – Laguna Verde

In the back ground is one of Bolivians grand volcanoes, the last time it erupted was in the 1940’s.

Fourth stop – Sol de Manana

A small park full of geysers and hot boiling mud. There was a sign, which we didn’t get a picture of, that said “danger do not enter”. Bolivians don’t really heed to the rules because we all crossed the boundary and walked right up to the things. It was smelly (sulfur), hot, and pretty cool.

Firth stop – Lagoon Colorado

A hug lake full of more than 25,000 flamingos. I have never seen flamingos in the wild before and I must admit they are funny looking birds and quite amusing to watch.

Last stop, home sweet home for the night
