Sequoia National Forest
A week of nature
Vacations are a funny thing, they seem to come at exactly the right time in life
in my case right before I think I am about to lose it in life
Mike and I had the privilege of escaping the city life for a re-connection with nature
no cell phones, ipads, laptops, radios
just a camera, tent, food, and us
The simple life is something we love and crave
hint to all hikers - never take advice from someone who hasn't hiked the trail in over 15 years
there perception on direction and estimated mileage is WAY off
At least at the end of the trail was a beautiful clear, clam and refreshing lake
If only we had brought our fly poles, next time
One of my many loves about camping, the sky
Not only do you get to smell and breath in fresh air all day, the sunsets and stars at night are
utterly breath taking
If only our camera could capture the clarity and brilliance of the milky way and stars
I am pretty sure I would blow up the picture and paste in on my bedroom ceiling so I could stare at it forever
Oh, what wonderful creations we have have before us
Mike is a pro firewood collector and builder
Note to all campers be prepared to collect wood or pay $8 a bundle
(1 bundle consists of about 6-8 small logs, roughly about 30 min of fire burning)
When camping in a forest there is absolutely no need to buy wood all you need to do
is walk around and find all the lovely dead trees and branches scattered on the ground
One thing that was new to us was bears
Can you spot the bear box in the back of this photo?
When every we were not at our campsite we had to have everything with an odor (food, lotions, lip gloss, gum, soaps, bug spray, seriously everything) in this large metal bear box container
When we first checked in the camp site dude told us about 1 o'clock Charlie,
a bear that loved to come around the campsite around 1 o'clock in the night
However, he guaranteed that as long as we followed to rules and keep all our stuff in the bear box that even if he did come around everything should be fine
Yeah, thanks to that little story I didn't get much sleep the first night
Thank goodness we didn't have any problems with bears
Love this Man with all my heart!
The Sequoias!
My fabulous little bro, Dan, came up for the weekend to camp with us
Yahoo, I love being with our family
These trees are seriously AWESOME
they make you feel so small
Fire is something that is extremely common in the sequoia forest
You can see how fire has completely hollowed out this tree
One of the days my brother was with us we spent at the lake
Sun shine, a cooler full of food and drinks, good books, a frisbee
oh what a fun day
My new obsession, butterflies
There were millions of these beautiful beauties all around
I am obsessed by there light fluttering, effortless glide, and stunning wings
They were in love with this particular flower
Some little friends we found while we were exploring
Our campsite stalker
Here is to an awesome week!
