Machu Piccu
Words cannot describe this place, it is truly breath taking. The city is sitting on the top of a mountain and is completely surrounded by mountains. The architecture is exquisite, the views mesmerizing, and the feeling of the city consumes you and makes you want to stay there forever.
Mike and I slept the night in Aguas Caliente, the small town at the foot of Machu Piccu, the night before heading up the mountain. We, like many others, awoke around 3:30 am to get down to the bus station and stand in line for the first bus up at 5:30. When we arrived in Machu Piccu we were one of the firsts and we were completely alone. We walked the streets, through the houses and temples, and climbed the many stairs in complete solitude. It was priceless. This place is truly spectacular!
Our fabulous Hotel, thank you dodgy cusco man.
Aguas Caliente- city in a vally surrounded by mountains.
3:30 am wake up, get to the bus, stand in line, and get excited!
Yahooo, we are here and all alone
Seriously, I am a bird fanatic now, thank you Patagonia.
Machu Piccu had aroud 800 residents 300 of them being the higher ups and the remainder the common class. The housing in city was divided into two sections to accommodate the people. We learned that the number 3 was very significant to the Incas; the 3 laws were no stealing, no lying, and don’t be lazy. All of the houses had 3 open windows; their symbol had three steps, and the temples had 3 doors.
The mountain right behind me, Waina Piccu, is a huge mountain that only so many tourist get to climb a day. Luckily we were one of them ;)
Poor Mikey had altitude sickness in Bolivia and then again in Cusco. He was a trooper and made it up the hike; I thought he was going to pass out at any moment.
View from the top
Where is Mike?
If you look really hard you can see Mikey in his green jacket sitting on the bottom ledge. He kept getting hot and cold flashes and thought he was going to spew at any second.
Yes, I know "another bird" :)
Seriously, this place was amazing!
Tip for travelers: Go in Low season, there is no one there and you practically have the place to your self!
